About LIWC 2018
Water is one of the most important natural resources that must be preserved, its quality maintained, and sustainably managed to ensure high living standards of future generations on the planet. In view of the importance of water supply subject, specifically in Libya, and generally in the Arab and the Mediterranean region, it is in this spirit that our organization members of ALAE have met, together with other Libyan academics and experts, and decided to organize this conference as their first main activity. The goal of the conference is to shed light on important issues such as Sustainability, Legislation, Technology, and Economics, all with emphasis on water.
About ALAE
The Assembly of Libyan Academics and Experts (ALAE) is a leading national non-governmental organization (NGO) seeking to participate actively in the human, social, and economic development in Libya. The ALAE is designated, through its scientific vision set by its members, to contribute in the development of Libya and to disseminate the culture of citizenship and support state institutions for the implementation of comprehensive development plans and projects. The ALAE is an independent Libyan NGO, registered under No.20160508-2-2582 at the office of civil society commission in Libya as a legal entity. It is entitled to conduct activities in accordance with the objectives and tasks listed in its statutes and in accordance with the laws and regulations in Libya.
City of Tripoli ( Ṭarābulus)
Tripoli is the capital and the largest city in Libya, located in the north-west of the country on the shores of the Mediterranean. It has a population of about 1.1 million people, according to the statistics of 2015, covering an area of about 400 square kilometers. People can enjoy a wonderful Mediterranean climate with its four distinct seasons. The old city of Tripoli has been a trade center since ancient times. It has some old buildings, such as the recently restored hotel Zamit, and a number of old mosques that are built over 1200 years ago, such as the masjid of Dargout. The old city part of Tripoli is one of the most famous landmarks and tourist destinations, containing archaeological buildings and monuments, and various typical Libyan markets such as the gold and handmade jewellery market. These markets include: Al-Moushir market, Al-Turk market, Al-Rabaa market and Al-Qazdara market, among others. Tripoli is a cosmopolitan city with wonderfully preserved Ottoman-era 'medina' and a world-class museum. The city of Tripoli is famous for its folkloric music arts known as Al-Malouf and Almuwashahat.
