The project for the preparation of the Arab Charter of ethics in Scientific Research and Technology started as a joint initiative of the UNESCO Regional Office for science in the Arab States in Cairo, the League of Arab States, and the National Council for scientific research in Lebanon, the Academy of Scientific Research and technology in Egypt, the Royal Scientific Society in Jordan, and the Pasteur Institute in Tunisia, with the participation of a number of regional concerned entities. The project came as a result of the Regional Consultation on 'Ethics of Scientific Research and Technology Applications in the Arab region', held in Beirut on 11-12 July 2017, which resulted in the assignment of UNESCO to coordinate the process of writing the outlines of a draft concerning the Arabic charter.
This meeting comes as a continuation of the consultative meeting concerning the states of the Arab Maghreb region on the ethics on scientific research and technology. The meeting was attended by a number of professors and experts in the field of scientific research, and by Dr. Khaled Ashouri as a representative of the ALAE. The full-day meeting resulted into corrections and amendments to the proposed draft and propose that it should be circulated to the concerned parties in the Arab States for further consultations.
